The congregation of the Apostolic Carmel
The Apostolic Carmel was founded in 1868 by
Mother Veronica of the Passion, France and
established at Mangalore, India in 1870.
Following the path of the Carmel tradition of St. Teresa of Avila and of Mother Veronica, the Sister try to combine contemplation with apostolic activity in their lives and adapt their apostolate to the signs of the times and the needs of the day. The focus of their apostolic service is Christ in his brethren, the Church and the world. The congregation tries to fulfil the purpose of it's existence through the education of youth in its various colleges, schools, technical training centres, hostels, children's homes, creches and school for the handicapped established through out India, Kuwait, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Rome, Africa, Bahrain and Philippines.
It aims at developing the students entrusted to its care, into committed people who should be the leaven in their milieu putting love and meaning into human life and endeavour. St. Agnes Branch School, Hijli, started on 11" January 1953 is an English Medium School, conducted by the Sisters of the Apostolic Carmel.
The School, is a Christian School established and administered by the Apostolic Carmel Education Society of West Bengal under Be religious jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Kolkata. Catholic School is a Learning Community which has Christ as its Central motivational force. His values, as expressed in the Beatitudes and summed up in the virtues of love, sincerity, justice and freedom, will so permit the Atmosphere that persons of all social backgrounds,even the most deprived and of all religious, feel welcome in loving warmth which cherishes,even as it challenges, So school has classes from KG I to 5 for both boys and girls.
